INDIANAPOLIS –
The U.S. Army Financial Management Command will honor Vietnam-era veterans during a Vietnam War Commemoration ceremony at the Maj. Gen. Emmett J. Bean Federal Center in Indianapolis March 28 at 1 p.m. ET.
Vietnam-era veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of the location of their service, are eligible to be honored as part of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, a national 50th anniversary commemoration.
The deadline for Vietnam-era veterans to register is March 19. To register, visit https://einvitations.afit.edu/inv/anim.cfm?i=1028106&k=036140017A577B.
“When our Vietnam veterans came home from fighting a war that our nation asked them to fight, they weren’t met with the tickertape parades of the World Wars or the loud applause in airports we experienced during our conflicts in the Middle East,” said Col. Michelle M. Williams, U.S. Army Financial Management Command commander. “In many cases, they were met with anger and hatred that they didn’t deserve.
“Through the Vietnam War Commemoration ceremonies we’ve been hosting since 2012, our nation has been working to make right the wrongs done to these men and women who took up arms on behalf of their nation,” Williams continued. “This year is the last one where we will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, and as our numbers of Vietnam veterans dwindle, it’s all the more important to thank each of them for their service and give them the ‘welcome home’ they deserve.
Honorees during the ceremony will receive a special Vietnam veteran lapel pin and a certificate of appreciation.
