Barry Hoffman serves as the executive directorl of the U.S. Army Financial Management Command, which conducts enterprise-level financial operations and provides technical coordination for Finance and Comptroller units and military pay support with commands across the Army in order to ensure the effective implementation of policies and programs to support optimally resourcing the Army and supporting Soldiers. He most recently served as the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Finance and Accounting director, a position he held for more than 12 years.
Hoffman began his civil service career shortly after retiring as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army after 21 years of active duty service in November 2007. He received his commission through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps as a distinguished military graduate in 1986 and holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Hofstra University, New York, and a Master of Science in management information systems from Auburn University, Alabama. His military education includes the Finance Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff Course, and the Command and General Staff College. He also maintains a Department of Defense Financial Management Level-3 certification.
Hoffman’s first active duty assignment was with the U.S. Army’s Berlin Brigade, Germany, where he served as a disbursing officer in the finance and accounting office and later as the chief of military pay. His next assignment was with the 24th Finance Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he served in a variety of positions including chief of pay and examination, detachment commander, and battalion operations (S-3). Upon his graduation from Auburn University in 1994, Hoffman was assigned to the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, where he served as a computer systems engineer and later as Information Support Center chief. His next assignment was with the 13th Finance Group, Fort Hood, Texas, where he served in a variety of positions including 230th Finance Battalion detachment commander, III Corps Defense Military Pay Office chief, and 215th Finance Battalion executive officer. Following his graduation from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 2002, he was selected as a Defense Finance and Accounting Service military exchange officer serving on the staff of the British Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency in Winchester, England. Following this assignment, Hoffman returned stateside and was assigned at Fort Monroe, Virginia, as Financial Services Division chief and deputy chief of staff for resource management (G-8) for Headquarters, USTRADOC. Upon his retirement from active duty in 2007, Hoffman served briefly as a payroll manager for the civilian sector in Newport News, Virginia.
Hoffman’s awards and decorations include three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and the Army Parachutist Badge.
